The Center for Advanced Radiation Sources (CARS) of the University of Chicago has a Post Doctoral Scholar (PDS) position available at the GeoSoilEnviroCARS (GSECARS) synchrotron research facility at the Advanced Photon Source (APS), located at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), near Chicago, Illinois. This is a full-time position, for which a Ph.D. in geology, physics, or a related field and synchrotron research experience using large-volume press (LVP) techniques are required. Solid background on liquid structure and physical properties is desired. The successful candidate for this position will
(1) conduct research on structure and physical properties of silicate melts at high pressures, using large-volume high-pressure devices (both multi-anvils and the Paris-Edinburgh press);
(2) participate in core research at GSECARS using the large-volume devices interfaced with synchrotron radiation;
(3) provide support for users from the large-volume, high-pressure community using GSECARS beamlines; and
(4) participate in other core and collaborative research.
The PDS will be involved in developing new techniques for collection and analysis of synchrotron data on high-pressure liquids.
