Nuclear Resonant Scattering and Data analysis

This workshop is organized as part of the COMPRES Education, Outreach and Infrastructure Development programs to promote the application of the state-of-the-art Nuclear Resonant Scattering (NRS) techniques for characterizing the properties of materials under the high P-T conditions of planetary interiors.

During this workshop, we plan to offer an introduction to the two NRS techniques: Synchrotron Mӧssbauer Spectroscopy (SMS) and Nuclear Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering (NRIXS). CONUSS, PHOENIX and SciPhon software will be introduced. Much of the workshop will involve hands-on training with CONUSS and PHOENIX. Recent instrumentation developments at the Sector 3 beamline will also be discussed. Common experimental issues that users are confronted with will be addressed.

Registration for the workshop is free. Limited travel support is available for students or early career scientists from domestic COMPRES member institutions upon request. Please note that the registration deadline is Sept. 30, 2016. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Wenli Bi at 630-252-0167 or wbi@aps.anl.gov.
