The Heart of a Diamond Anvil Cell
Inventing new tools to understand Earth and the deep interiors of other planetary bodies

Welcome to COMPRES

COMPRES, the Consortium for Materials Properties Research in Earth Sciences is a community-based consortium whose goal is to enable Earth Science researchers to conduct the next generation of high-pressure science on world-class equipment and facilities. It facilitates the operation of beam lines, the development of new technologies for high pressure research, and advocates for science and educational programs to the various funding
agencies.

Recent Science Highlights

Measurements of the Lamb-Mössbauer factor at simultaneous high-pressure-temperature conditions and estimates of the equilibrium isotopic fractionation of iron
Dongzhou Zhang, Jennifer M. Jackson, Wolfgang Sturhahn, Jiyong Zhao, E. Ercan Alp and Michael Y. Hu

Constraining composition and temperature variations in the mantle transition zone
Wen-Yi Zhou, Ming Hao, Jin S. Zhang, Bin Chen, Ruijia Wang & Brandon Schmandt

Steering Committee

Recently, NSF has released a proposal solicitation for a new organization for management of synchrotron-based analytical capabilities for Earth and Environmental Sciences research and training.

COMPRES is working with the larger Geoscience community to create a new and innovative organization in response to this call. More information about this effort can be found here.
